Three Things I’m Going to Do in 2021

Three Things I’m Going to Do in 2021

Happy new year kids! I hope you had safe, socially distanced celebrations. Mam, Dad and I enjoyed it being in the warmth of our lovely home. Drinking cocktails and champagne until the new year rang in! This year will bring many fresh starts and I can’t wait to get started! I started the year by drinking my fourth gin of the night. Facetiming Alice, Chris and Marcus when it was two minutes to midnight. Even though we couldn’t physically be together, it was really nice to ‘be’ with the people who made my year.

This year I am really determined to smash my goals and leave any negative energy behind in 2020. Hence why I did a purge on my social medias. Talking about social media, did you see I reached over 23 THOUSAND views on my Instagram reel? If not, you can check it out here! Here’s hoping 2021 brings us all the luck and joy in the world to help us accomplish our goals!

Stop thinking negative thoughts about myself

I wrote about how I focused more on my mental health a lot more last year. I mentioned how I would often log on to my social medias and feel a bit down after reading or seeing someone of a similar age wear or do something I wanted to and then immediately feeling down and guilty that I don’t look the same or dress the same. 2021 is the year where that stops. I’ve already started to feel miles more confident on Instagram, especially with the support from blogging groups – I couldn’t of imagined my blogs getting at least 100 reads a day when I first started out. Also, the quality of my content both on here and Instagram is MILES better.

One way for me to get rid of negative energy is to hit that unfollow button (and unfriend too). I am really determined to be the best I can this year – I’ve even vowed to go for a little stroll every day when I’m not working just to get out of the house and have a productive day. Plus I can get a bit fitter too! I have to lug about some heavy totes of cards at work and I feel myself running out of breath after the second step, oops. I don’t think being furloughed twice and sitting around doing nothing helped with that either.

Don’t dwell on the past year

Yep, I had a bit of a crap year towards the end of 2020, but I did find some true lifelong friends. Even if we couldn’t of haven’t seen each other physically for the past year, cheers Rona. Being just me now has actually shown I am quite good at my blog and promoting it with out feeling embarrassed. I know all my restaurant blogs did really well but I felt I had to purge those as to be honest, I don’t know why I wrote them. If anything, it just gave the impression I didn’t eat at home…which was the case. I guess it was because we didn’t live together but lockdown and furlough have made me realise I missed my lovely parents. A lot.

Well, I think we can all agree we learnt a new word in 2020: furlough. When Boris was first circling the word around I was so confused. I think it was because I didn’t actually understand I would be part of that bracket. Twice. It really does make you realise how precious your job is and your friendship groups too. I am very lucky to work for a company who was actually expanding during lockdown and smashing target too – however, work has been a tad boring recently as it’s been really quiet. On our first shift back after the new year, for most of the day there was more staff than customers for most of the day.

Enjoy the little things in life

2020 taught me my readers love an honest post…hence the nearly 400 reads on my post about being single again. Hopefully 2021 will bring more! I quite liked writing that post as it was a good way to get closure and it actually helped others. I still can’t believe the response it got. Thank you again. It’s definitely opened a new chapter for myself and for my blog, and I’ve found some lovely people through social media follows as well.

2021 will be the year everyone will appreciate the little things in life such as buying from a small business or taking up a new hobby. Within the first hours of the new year, I bought loads of crafty things from Etsy from various business so I have little projects to work on during my days off…even though I am behind on my CHRISTMAS presents still – but I was working full days the last week of the Christmas rush!

Just a little ending note to say I hope you have a fab 2021, you deserve it.

Niamh x

This was such a special post! I loved reading your aspirations for 2021 Niamh; I think I’m going to take these three leaves out of your book for the new year too. Haha. πŸ™‚ Here’s to enjoying the little things in life much more and the biggest one for me, not thinking negatively about myself! I am the worst for that!

You’re job sounds so interesting. I felt good about my changes at the end of 2020 but actually also find I still dwell on them a little bit. You’ve given me the kick to embrace my changes and look forward with more excitement and less worry! Do you mind me asking, what job do you do, it sounds exciting?

Best wishes for 2021 from a new reader,

    Ellie x
